Satellite Communication Components

GroundPort can supply equipment from a range of industry manufacturers in order to meet the specific requirements of our clients.

Many customers prefer to conduct their own integration and we are happy to supply any or all of the individual components required to assist with this.

Equipment we supply

Antennas

The antenna directs signal to and from the satellite concentrating power into a “pencil beam” pointed at the satellite typically 36,000km away. In general, the larger an antenna, the higher its capital and installation costs will be whilst reducing the operational service cost.

While antenna mounting posts are often provided locally, a range of Post mounts and Non-penetrating mounts may be provided.

BUC and High-Power Amplifiers

The Power amplifiers in VSAT systems are usually Solid-State based devices referred to as Block Up-Converters (BUC) as they also include frequency conversion from L-band. Higher power systems may use Travelling Wave Tube based Amplifiers (TWTA).

Low Noise Blocks (LNB)

Low Noise Blocks (LNB) and Low Noise Amplifiers provide immediate amplification for the low-level signal arriving from the satellite. They are designed to introduce very little noise. LNBs include a Down-Conversion stage to L-band.

Modems, Satellite Routers

The satellite modem converts a data signal to and from an RF signal at IF (70 or 140MHz) or, more typically for contemporary systems, L-band. Many products, especially those built for use with main platforms like iDirect or UHP Networks incorporate a router stage and may be referred to as Satellite Routers. Other common integrated devices include Encoder-Modulators and Integrated Receiver-Decoders for video transmission.

Baseband equipment - Routers, Switches, VoIP, Video Encoders

Network routers, Switches and other networking equipment including Voice interfacing and Professional Video encoding equipment for Contribution feeds/SNG and Broadcast/distribution.

Cables, connectors, splitters, combiners, RF over fibre

High quality cable assemblies or bulk cable provision to provide connections between indoor and outdoor equipment over lengths of typically 20m or 30m but up to approx. 100m. RF over fibre systems for greater distances up to several km or for greater protection from interference.

Combining and Splitting networks for multi modem / multi receiver configurations. Passive or active systems provided to meet technical and cost restrictions, line amplifiers for use on long cable runs.

Lightning protection, mounting hardware

Integration consumables to provide a complete solution e.g. Waveguide, Mounting brackets, Self-amalgamating tape, Silicone grease, Cable ties, Grounding Systems miscellaneous hardware. Lightning spikes, Lightning surge suppression kits for cross-site to protect against induced voltages damaging connected electronics.

Test equipment

A number of items to aid installation and maintenance including Alignment tools, Satellite meters and Spectrum analysers.
